The event kick off was come and go, and there was an online attendance option through zoom. The event included a full tour of Ulabs and focused on the manufacturing process of face shields. Due to covid-19 all extra safety precautions were implemented. A collaboration with Lubbock area High School students by selling T-shirts, design the flyer, announcing the event, inviting the people and setting up communication channels and the event. Graduate students from the Chemical Engineering Department at Texas Tech have been working with the West Texas Covid-19 Relief Consortium to produce brims and face shields for distribution to key medical facilities around Lubbock and the region. Assistant Professor John D. Carrell from the Honors College is leading the effort and students Satish Mangalara and Aric Denton from Chemical Engineering are 3D printing brims and laser cutting shields for the effort. The photo below shows, from left to right, Aric, John and Satish before the Honors College where drop-off of finished shields is made. To date they have contributed over 1200 shields and nearly 100 brims to the project.
